When spring rolls around, the students always start to get jittery. This is because the students feel summer coming, and the heat is blowing through the windows. Not only this, but students start to get anxious because it is time to make decisions about living for the upcoming year. 

For me, this decision caused a lot of stress. in November, i had planned on rooming with my best friend, named Maddie. We had met on the soccer team in the fall and had become good friends. One night, I was in the city with her, my roommate Uracha, and my mother. We were out to dinner, when Maddie got up to go to the bathroom. I then turned to my mom and I told her that i wanted to room with Maddie. She then asked me if I had asked her yet, and I said no because I wasn’t sure if she would say yes. Soon after, Maddie returned from the bathroom. My mom then turned to Uracha and asked Uracha who she was rooming with, she told my mom she was rooming with a good friend from soccer. My mom then asked Maddie who she was rooming with. Maddie said she didn’t know yet. Then my mom turned to me and asked me who I was rooming with. I said i didnt know either. Obviously, my mom then says to Maddie that we should room together. I was so shocked that I almost missed when Maddie said okay. I was so happy that we were rooming together, but the happiness didn’t last for long.

The next few months went by in a blur. Maddie and I grew even closer than before and with this, we started fighting. From then on, it was down hill from there. When the time came around to make the rooming final, Maddie backed out. She claimed that we would not get along and that we were not compatible as roommates. I. Was. Crushed. I felt as though I was being dumped by my best friend. I felt as though I wasn’t good enough to be her friend. Soon after this, my phenomenal friend Josephine offered to be my roommate. It was nice to feel wanted after feeling so….. unwanted. 

For weeks after, Maddie and I didn’t talk. Things just didnt seem to be the same between us anymore, and i feared that we were growing apart. But soon i realized that things were going to turn out for the best. If she wants to stay my friend, then I would be thrilled. But in the meantime, I have found a great roommate, who i cannot wait to live with next year. THANK YOU JOSEPHINE!
